Winter has been relatively quiet for CHW London Centre. Nonetheless, our chapters have had some meetings.
Bertha Weinstein Chapter
In late January, twelve members of the chapter met at McGinnins Landing for lunch. There was no business meeting, but members enjoyed a social time together.
Marla Lewis reported that a card had been sent to Brenda Ryan wishing her mazel tov on being named to the Mayor’s New Year List. Brenda has been instrumental in creating the first “Adaptive Cooking Class for persons with disabilities” in London. Congratulations from all of us, Brenda!
Kol Hashalom Chapter
On February 13 at the Kol Hashalom Hadassah meeting our guest speaker, family lawyer Elizabeth Goldenberg, spoke about “separation literacy”. She talked about the essential knowledge we all need to help others when dealing with separation and divorce. Just like we know how to choose options of care when someone’s injured, we should all know the basics about separation to avoid costly mistakes. It was an interesting and informative presentation and a lively discussion afterwards.
On March 13, Dr. Anat Kornecki, a radiologist specializing in mammography, gave a presentation entitled “BREAST CANCER SCREENING: Where are we at?” Anat had spoken to our chapter about eight years ago, and it is amazing how many advances there have been in this field during that time. There is of course more up-to-date equipment and imaging available so that disease can be diagnosed and treatment can begin sooner.
Looking forward to Spring!
Kol Hashalom will be participating in a barre class at Hi-Ignition Fit Lab, led by Debbie Kapp in April, after Passover, on April 24.
We are in the process of planning our Annual Campaign event. More details will be available as they become finalized.
