Welcome to CHW Montreal
CHW Montreal President, Sheila Nemtin Levine
I would like to share with you some of the wonderful accomplishments that our CHW Montreal centre has achieved this year which have contributed to CHW’s mission to support programs and services for Children, Healthcare and Women in Israel and Canada.
We hosted a fascinating health event featuring Jill Barker, fitness columnist of the Montreal Gazette who shared insights on how to improve your overall health, and Dr. Nadav Berkovitz, who explained the amazing breakthroughs being done in interventional surgery for strokes at the CHW Marla Dan Stroke and Invasive Neuroradiology department at Assaf Harofeh Hospital in Israel.
In May, we had the privilege of hosting the Canadian Movie Premiere of There Is Many Like Us, a documentary film which recounts the Holocaust story of our very own Rena and Max Fronenberg. It was a sold-out crowd of over 340 people! In case you missed it, we are hosting an encore presentation, in collaboration with March of The Living in January at the Cineplex Odeon Forum. Josh Webber, the producer and Max’s grandson will be flying in from LA to take part in a Q&A. Book your tickets soon since it’s almost sold out.
Kol Hakavod to our chapters who held events during the year. The Shoshanim Chapter sold over 500 Passover Baskets which were delivered all over the city by a huge contingent of volunteers, raising over $35,000. The Anna Zaitchick Chapter held their annual Walk a Thon to much success, raising over $13,000! The Theodor Herzl Chapter hosted their movie night with over 100 people in attendance. The Golda Meir Chapter has presented a series of wonderful programs, addressing a huge range of topics from health to politics. And finally, the Tel Hai Chapter hosted their popular and prosperous Bridge, Mahjong and Canasta Luncheon at Elm Ridge Country Club raising over $30,000.
Our devoted Co-Chairs Joseph Balinsky, Gary Hutman and Danny Kaufer, were the force behind our largest fundraiser – the Pro-Am For Kids golf tournament. This annual event raised $170,000 for CHW schools in Israel and Leave Out Violence here in Montreal.
We started the New Year off sweetly by selling and delivering 500 tins of Chocolate for Rosh Hashanah. And, last month we hosted our Art Auction at the beautiful Kandy Gallery. I am proud to report that over $80,000 was raised in support of the Underground Operating Rooms at Hadassah Hospital.
We remain dedicated and diligent in our commitment to raising funds for our projects in Israel. In spite of Israel’s many triumphs, there are always set-backs and needs to be met. Last month saw a rash of fires that ravaged northern Israel causing the evacuation of a WIZO youth village. CHW Nahalal Children & Youth Village came to the rescue with shelter and food.
As we celebrate our 100th birthday in 2017, CHW remains relevant, steadfast, and unwavering in its goals. I encouraging you to take part in CHW’s Celecation trip to Israel which is poised to be one of the major highlights of our 100th year. I hope you will consider taking part in this special and meaningful trip.
