Welcome to CHW Ottawa
More than a year has passed since we began our term as co-presidents of CHW Ottawa. We have enjoyed working together, and with our executive and membership committees. We are very fortunate to have excellent executive and portfolio chairs, and members at large, who are a great asset to us: Debbie Baylin, Sandy Bennett, Anna Chodos, Robin Chernick, Lynn Gillman, Hedy Gutman, Deborah Goldstein, Gina Grant, Esther Kulik, Marilyn Schwartz, and Ilene Strong.
We have had a very busy spring and summer this year.
CHW Ottawa Spring Tea 2016
On Sunday, June 19, 2016, the place to be was at the elegant Spring Tea hosted by the Amit, Mollie Betcherman and Ina McCarthy chapters of Ottawa Hadassah-WIZO. This year the honourees were Jaquelin Holzman and Evelyn Greenberg and the event was held at the home of their dear friend, Dorothy Nadolny. Jackie and Evelyn are the Feldman sisters, born and raised in Ottawa, both of whom are long time volunteers and contributors to the Jewish community as well as many other organizations.
In this beautiful setting, 150 guests enjoyed schmoozing and partaking in delicious pastries and party sandwiches, all hand made by the chapter members. The honourees’ sons – Mark Holzman and Peter Greenberg – presented humourous and moving tributes to their mothers and aunts and Alina Ianson, National Executive Director of Canadian Hadassah-WIZO (CHW) spoke about the organization and why it is imperative to continue supporting Israel this year and in the years to come.
Jackie and Evelyn are delighted with the generous response and want to thank their family and friends who contributed to their chosen CHW project in Israel – CHW Hadassim Children and Youth Village. Located east of Netanya and north of Tel Aviv, Hadassim has historically been a place of refuge, beginning with taking in children orphaned during the Holocaust. The most recent arrivals are French teenagers whose parents are sending them to Hadassim to escape the severe anti-Semitism they have been subjected to in France. The new French Na’aleh academic program has filled quickly and there is already a need for dormitory space for 30 more girls. The funds raised from this event will go a long way to fulfilling that need.
If you would like to make a donation to this worthy cause, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 613-699-0802. In closing, Evelyn says “Thank you for the perfect Hadassah-WIZO Tea! We were beyond proud to be the honourees at such an important and splendid event”
