Welcome to CHW Vancouver
CHW Vancouver President, Stephanie Rusen
September and October were very busy months preparing for the National Tribute Gala and AGM. These events are normally held in Toronto. This year, Vancouver had the honour to host both the Gala and the AGM.
On Saturday November 5th, 2016, the Four Seasons’ Ballroom was the scene of our terrific Tribute Gala Honouring Claudia Goldman as she stepped down from the National Presidency. Over 150 People attended as Esther Mor, World WIZO President, spoke of the importance of WIZO and CHW working together. In recognition of Claudia’s outstanding contribution to enriching the partnership between CHW and World WIZO, she presented Claudia with the prestigious World WIZO Rebecca Sieff Award.
Ze’ev Twito, Director of CHW Hadassim Children and Youth Village, told us about the children’s love for Claudia. The newly renovated Dormitory Hey now bears her name.
The main event was the Tribute to Claudia given by Roslyn Joseph. She described Claudia’s devotion, drive, and determination to accomplish all she could for our projects in Israel with Hadassim taking a special place in her heart. Roslyn announced that in recognition of Claudia’s devoted and outstanding leadership, The Dormitory Hey at Haddassim Children and Youth Village would bear her name.
Guy & Yahel, Guy Mentesh and Yahel Doron, who are singing sensations in Israel, provided the entertainment. First they spoke about how they met at Hadassim. Both are graduates from Hadassim and launched a successful musical career. They were delighted to be with us to give back to CHW through singing to us in both Hebrew and English. Afterwards they provided the music for the dancing. Almost everyone was on the dance floor, singing and dancing.
I want to thank all of you who helped make this a great success, both the National Tribute Committee and everyone here in Vancouver.
It is a CHW National mandate that the centerpieces are to be donated to us and we then donate them to benefit children in our city. Catherine Epstein designed the centerpieces and found a donor to sponsor the materials required to incorporate the musical theme, Changing Lives Through Music.
Through CHW’s Sheryl Morris and her contact Howard Blank, Catherine was put in touch with the BC Variety Club. Leslie is the Variety Club co-ordinator which matched CHW to a school who would benefit from the musical centrepieces created for the CHW Gala honouring then National President Claudia Goldman. The intermediate music teacher (grades 4-7), Kathy-Ann Nobs-Theissen along with two of her student helpers, were thrilled with the 25 neon music stands, recorders and music books donated by CHW!
The school’s winter concert takes place December 7th and every “centrepiece gift” will be put to good use! If huge smiles and accompanied hugs are a measure of someone’s excitement and appreciation, this teacher and “her kids” are over the top!
