CHW National President
As the New Year begins, what better time is there to reflect on the successes of the one before?
This past year was remarkable, and I would like to take this opportunity to give my heartfelt thanks for your hard work on CHW's behalf. Coming together for those in need should instil a sense of pride in each and every one of you, our members, volunteers and friends.
We had an incredibly active 2013, and we have a lot to be proud of. Here are some highlights - The 2013 Annual Campaign, â??Creating Better Tomorrowâ??sâ??, was a huge success! All of CHWâ??s commitments for 2013 were met, including the completion of our commitment to the CHW M. Fanny Comprehensive Breast Care Institute at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center. Beginning January 2014, CHW will provide $1 million over 4 years for the CHW Stroke and Invasive Neuroradiology Institute, our latest commitment to Assaf Harofeh.
At the end of October, we met our goal for Hadassim is Home. The support was tremendous and in two months, $55,540 was raised for the repairs to the greenhouse at CHW Hadassim School and Youth Village! Funds raised through this appeal directly helps students who rely on the greenhouse to complete their biology studies, and improves the quality of life for all who call CHW Hadassim home.
In November, to coincide with CHWâ??s Annual General Meeting in Toronto, the organization hosted a tribute evening to pay tribute to Esther Matlow zâ??l, long-time CHW member and Honourary National President.
Throughout the month of December, Canadian Hadassah-WIZO (CHW) celebrated GivingTuesday, taking part in this global movement that launched in Canada for the first time! And due to the overwhelming support from CHW members and friends - through a donation or by the sharing of personal CHW stories via social media - the choose YOUR impact challenge was a success! From December 3rd (GivingTuesday's official launch) until December 31st, $20,621 dollars was raised in support CHW projects in Israel.
2013 was also a great year for our beloved projects in Israel.
- The Israel Ministry of Education recognized CHW Hadassim as a top ten school for science curriculum. I am so proud of the students and teachers at the school for this incredible accomplishment!
- The CHW Nahalal Youth Village also saw much success, as a student was awarded the Bronze medal at the 2013 International Physics Olympiad, and the school itself received the 2013 Boarding School Excellence Award by Administration for Rural Education and Youth Aliyah.
Stay tuned for information regarding the 2014 Annual Campaign - be sure to check your mailboxes beginning in March!
CHW Centres across Canada continue to offer all kinds of great events. As always, these functions remind me of the strong bond that CHW creates among its members, and the impact that we make together for our many projects in Israel devoted to Children, Healthcare and Women.
Enjoy the winter,
CHW National President
