Welcome to CHW Montreal
As I sat down to write this message, I was reflecting on the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. We needn’t look beyond the recent tragic events in France at Charlie Hebdo and supermarket Hyper Cacher to realize that the battle against Anti-Semitism is still unfortunately very much a reality. Your support of CHW ensures that we continue to offer help to those in need. As you may already be aware, the CHW Nahalal and Hadassim Youth Villages offered shelter to hundreds of people seeking safety during last summer’s war with Gaza. Hadassim also recently inaugurated the French Na’aleh program, designed specifically for young people from French speaking countries who are looking for a fresh start in our ancestral homeland, Israel. As members and friends of CHW we can be proud of CHW’s wonderful accomplishments, and we couldn’t do it without you!
Closer to home, we have been busy at CHW Montreal over the past several months. In September, we helped sweeten the year for our project beneficiaries by selling Rosh Hashanah chocolate tins. We also held our lovely annual Bridge and Mahjong Luncheon. In October, we held our successful Art Soiree at Galerie de Bellefeuille. In November, we prepared, packed and delivered Shabbat to Share meals with Mada. In December, we celebrated Chanukah together with guest speakers Twinkle Rudberg and Spencer O’Gallagher from LOVE. February brought us Yogalates with our Young Professionals Group .You can read more about each of these terrific events in our newsbulletin.
We are planning many exciting activities scheduled to take place over the next few months, all in support of our wonderful projects in Israel. In March, in honour of International Women’s Day, CHW will be joining with Emunah and Na’amat to present author Dr. Sima Goel who will be speaking about her book Fleeing the Hijab: A Jewish Woman’s Escape from Iran. The Shoshanim chapter will also be offering their beautiful Passover baskets for sale in support of our many projects in Israel. We will also be meeting with CHW National President Claudia Goldman on March 26th 2015 to learn about best practices and trends in philanthropy. This is an evening that you won’t want to miss. In May, we will launch our first ever CHW Spa Night as well as our centre-wide Walk in the Park fundraiser in support of our projects in collaboration with the Heart and Stroke Foundation. There is something for everyone to enjoy. Please click here for a complete listing of our upcoming events.
April brings with it the opportunity to LEARN, LOVE, LIVE Israel the CHW Way and participate in what is sure to be a phenomenal Mission to Israel led by CHW National President Claudia Goldman. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to visit our projects in Israel and see your fundraising dollars at work. Please here for a draft itinerary.
In your newsbulletin mailing, you will receive your annual campaign pledge card. This year’s theme is Big Needs, Caring Hearts. Please consider opening your heart to help us address the ever growing needs by making a generous gift. Our wonderful professional staff, Alanna and Cindy, is always available to help guide your decision to ensure that your gift is directed to the project closest to your heart.
Finally, we are excited to announce that we will be moving to a modern and centrally located office at the end of May. We welcome our members and friends to come visit us on June 8th at Decarie Square, 6900 Decarie suite 3405.
As we celebrate Tu Bishvat and Purim, and prepare for Passover, holidays that celebrate renewal and freedom, let us remember that it is always the right time to show our support for the wonderful and important work that CHW is doing. Consider sending a card or certificate to commemorate or honour someone for any occasion, purchasing a meal for a family in need at one of our projects, or making a donation to our annual campaign.
We look forward to continuing to work together with you in support of our many projects benefiting Children, Healthcare and Women.
Wishing everyone a “freilechen” Purim and a happy and healthy Passover.
May we continue to go from strength to strength.
