Message from the President
Whether you're a CHW member or a CHW supporter, one thing is certain, someone or something has inspired you to make a difference. And often, that inspiration comes from the most unexpected place!
As CHW Montreal President, I often have the privilege of hearing the stories behind the gift first-hand.
When I met with Ruth* this summer, she told me about how she'd come across a back issue of this newsletter, long forgotten among her mother's things. As she read the profile about a high school student at Netanya Technological High School, she knew she'd found the right place to make a gift in her mother's memory.
For the B'not Mitzvah girls featured inside our recent Newsbulletin, their decision to raise funds for our Bar/Bat Mitzvah program was first inspired by our profile of Jordan Wise who'd done the same last year. But it was more than that - it felt right because this was a special way to ensure that a disadvantaged Israeli girl or boy would have the opportunity to make the same journey as they were.
As President, I often have the privilege of being the catalyst that sets the route to inspiration in motion.
In May, I challenged my Emergency Appeal team to pull out all the stops and help raise the more than $55,000 needed to begin the renovations at the Clara Balinsky Daycare Centre. Kol Hachavod to Lil Goldberg, Diana Shadowitz, Sheila Busgang, Susan Wainberg, Judith Lifshitz, Mioriam Peletz, Marsha Ptack, Rhonda Schwartz, Renna Bassal, Sarah Hutman, Maxine Sanders, Freda Gasoi, Harriet Star, Roslyn Joseph, and Susan Bercovitch.
For Marla Goodwin-Zipper and Marcy Segall, it began with an unexpected call: I called Marla to let her know that she'd been nominated as our Montreal delegate to the World Aviv Conference. Alanna Elias, our Centre Coordinator, called Marcy to tell her that she was our nominee for the World Lapid Conference. As you'll read in their reports, both came back with a renewed sense of enthusiasm for CHW.
As we head into our 2010 Annual Campaign, I can't wait to hear that you've found the special something that inspires your renewed support!
Susan Abramowitz
