Bar / Bat Mitzvah Programs
In 1999, the Kroft family established a Bar/Bat Mitzvah program to honour Sharon Kroft's term as President of CHW Toronto. Sharon's sons believe that their lives have been enriched growing up in a household that focused on tzedakah and acts of loving kindness.
The Kroft Bar/Bat Mitzvah program is a unique opportunity for young teenagers to give and at the same time, to get back. For a minimum donation of $500, the Bar/Bat Mitzvah, along with his/her family can choose to help support any of Canadian Hadassah-WIZO's worthy projects. Lately, teens have chosen after school enrichment programs in art and music at Hadassim, and an arts education program at Netanya. The teen receives a beautiful certificate and his/her name is inscribed on a plaque displayed in the main boardroom of the CHW Toronto office. The teen is also honoured at our Volunteer Recognition event in June. The office is available to make up place cards for the Bar/Bat Mitzvah, which describe how the teen's generous donation will benefit others.
To date, 44 teens have committed a portion of their funds to CHW projects. It is the hope of the Kroft family that this selfless act of tzedakah will be gratifying for the teen, and will launch them on a lifetime of generosity and giving back to their community.
