Welcome to CHW Vancouver
Vancouver Centre has had a busy spring. Events both old and new are enriching the fabric of CHW on the west coast.
Events for the year kicked off with our talk on Ovarian Cancer and Jewish Genetics. Speakers from outside organisations provided context and background prior to a poignant presentation by one of our CHW members who described her own personal journey and courageous stance when faced with a cancer diagnosis.
The 4th annual Intergenerational Tea was held March 30. Ages 5 to 95+ were there to connect with old friends and form new relationships.
Our pre-Passover talk on the “Social Justice Seder” delivered by the inspiring young Rabbi Joshua Corber was well received – it was as interesting as it was informative.
New this year was the Heritage Walk on May 4th. Despite wet west coast weather, nearly 20 CHW members participated and we plan to repeat this next year.
Nordau chapter’s annual spring luncheon held on May 14 marked 64 years of continuing activity. There were 26 chapter members who attended, albeit some with walkers, some with canes but all smartly dressed and eager to meet up with old friends. Bev Corber, Vancouver Centre’s president, was warmly received as she gave an update on the Centre’s programs.
The annual Aviva Games day, held on May 22 at the Richmond Country Club, was a resounding success both financially and in participation. Each year the amazing ladies of Aviva chapter manage to put on a great day of games and sisterhood.
This year we held our first “Walk in the Park” fundraiser. Participants enjoyed one of Vancouver’s jewels—walking 5km on the beautiful Spanish Banks beach path walk on June 22. The weather couldn’t have been more beautiful and aside from surpassing our fundraising goal, everyone had an outstanding time enjoying the exercise, weather and delicious picnic lunch afterward. We look forward to building on this event in the future.
Finally, we’re about to host the 32nd annual CHW Vancouver Pro-Am Golf tournament on July 7. We have an amazing committee helping to make everything from the gigantic silent auction to the delicious on-course food exceed expectations.
