Women Supporting Those in Need

CONNECT

It is important to remind ourselves that we must do our best to reach out and support those in need. Canadian Hadassah-WIZO (CHW) is built upon this exact principle: helping children, families, and women. In turn, it is wonderful to see others do their part in caring for those in need.

Recently, the Sadnat-Shiluv Center held an event that supports special needs youth in Israel. The event consisted of 300 women of all ages swimming across Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galiliee.)

Of the 300 women who swam the nearly four kilometers, swimmers included a 10-year old who only recently learned to swim, an 80 year old, and a partially blind woman.

One swimmer, Eve Jacobs, who learned to swim only a few years ago shared, “it was a life changing experience… the energy of the incredible women swimming along with me, strangers supporting and encouraging me.”

This event not only helps those in need, as event organizer Vivienne Glaser explained, it also aims to empower the female participants. The duality of this event is what makes it particularly impactful.

Empowering women starting at such a young age is so integral to their confidence and self-worth, which rings true to similar programs that CHW provides at our projects. Clearly, this event shapes these womens’ lives.

Well done to the women who came out to support the special needs youth of Israel!
