Welcome to CHW Vancouver
CHW Vancouver President, Lori Barer
Shalom Friends of CHW Vancouver Centre!
As my term as President of CHW Vancouver winds down, I’d like to take this time to thank all of you who have supported us by coming out to our events and to thank all our Benefactors, Patrons, Sponsors, and Donors. You have continued to show your unwavering support of our organization. We are forever grateful. I’d also like to recognize all the incredible people who have helped plan and implement programs and events while working together with me to accomplish more. I’m sure that you know how much I appreciate your assistance and your commitment to CHW. Todah Rabah!
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, although our doors were closed, we continued to work virtually and passionately. Our hearts were warmed by the connections and conversations we had with many of our members. It was a privilege to hear what you had to say and how you have been managing with social distancing and working from home. It has been months of learning, a time of amazing experiences, and a period of interesting challenges. This time at home has given us much time to reflect on our accomplishments over the past year.
During CHW Vancouver’s 2019 Walk to Protect Children, we raised funds for the CHW Debbie Eisenberg and Gary Levene Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at The Shamir Medical Centre (Assaf Harofe) in Israel. We also honoured the indomitable Dolly, a loyal lady who is determined to beat her fundraising goals each year through the Aviva Games Day Silent Auction. The Aviva Games Day 2019 event was another success and was sold out thanks to our honouree, Co-Chairs, Patrons and players. The funds raised were directed towards The Dairy Program at CHW Nahalal Children and Youth Village. We look forward to our next Aviva Games Day!
Last September, we honoured three amazing ladies in our Opening Event, Heroes Among Us. Thank you to our committee for this motivational event. The funds raised went towards the CHW Centre for Clinical Training & Community Care at Hadassah Academic College (HAC), Israel. We also acknowledged a Woman of Distinction with proceeds going to the PICU at The Shamir Medical Centre (Assaf Harofe) in Israel. Thank you to our Honourees and our Patrons and thank you to all who came out to support this annual event.
In October, our CHW Vancouver Book Club hosted a Book Launch of Voice of Rebellion: How Mozhdah Jamalzadah Brought Hope to Afghanistan. We look forward to our next Book Club event.
We celebrated Chanukah with four extremely talented young Russian Canadian performers: Tiana, Matthew, Victoria, and Vlada. The guests were thoroughly entertained and impressed.
Over the past months, we have all been sheltering at home. Unfortunately, we could not gather in large numbers and had to postpone our CHW Aviva Games Day 2020. Our projects continue to need us more than ever, and to support our mission, CHW Vancouver creatively began to take our events online.
We got energized with ZoomBA! and we learned how to create gorgeous gardens in Scent and Sustainability. We look forward to zooming our way through the pandemic and to seeing you at our upcoming Zoom sessions and events. Stay tuned for announcements coming soon!
Please call or email the office if you would like to attend and/or get more involved in programming. I know that you can have fun and feel rewarded by actively assisting us in supporting our projects for Children, Healthcare, and Women in Israel.
We gratefully appreciate your support of our CHW 2020 Annual Campaign. Thank you for continuing to make a difference!
Home is where the heart is. Stay safe, stay healthy, stay connected.
