Welcome to CHW Victoria
Greetings from Victoria. Being primarily a retirement community, it gives us much joy to have welcomed and still welcome new members from elsewhere in Canada and abroad.
This past winter has been a rather difficult one for our CHW Victoria community, as a few of our members’ husbands have passed away. However, being the close community that we are, we were able to support them the best way we could.
This year we had a wonderful Annual Campaign Kickoff. One of our Executive members
suggested, that since we have such an eclectic membership, we should have a few of them speak on “International Pesach Cuisines” We learned about the delicacies from Israel, Morocco, Turkey, South Africa and China. Our turnout was great and we all had a lovely afternoon.
We continue to celebrate our members’ birthdays in a different restaurant, every two months. We get good turn outs for these restaurant lunches and they have continued to be a real hit. This birthday celebration has a fundraising component as well, as we are raising funds for the CHW Hadassim Children and Youth Village Therapeutic Centre. On June 3, 2018 we had our second “Walk in the Park”, again at Beacon Hill Park. Although we had fewer participants and it did rain, especially during picnic time, we did have an enjoyable time nevertheless. We all showed that we were hardier than we thought, when our guide “extraordinaire”, Sharon Fitch, lead us through trails and up and down hills in the park, which were mostly unknown to the rest of us.
Our fall program, although not completely laid out in stone yet, promises to be exciting. For the fourth time, our Past President, Sharon Fitch, has graciously offered to open up her Succah to our members. Of course, our birthday parties will continue.
Our Executive for 2018/2019 remains almost constant: Sharon Fitch, Past President, Damaris Notte, Secretary, Esther Laredo, Treasurer, Eleanor Mintz, Newsletter Editor, Celia Negin, Membership,Josie Davidson, Program and Selma Linzer member-at-large. We thank Frances Aknai for having been on Publicity for many years and Leah Kinarthy for having served as member-at-large.
